Material and form studies

Material and form studies with Pleurotus Ostreatus and clay

2021

Materials: Pleurotus Ostreatus, clay, petri dishes,
nutrient fluid, spelt husks, straw, paper, coffee grounds

With the help of clay and Pleurotus Ostreatus, various form and material studies have been created that examine the extent to which the mycelium of the fungus can be used as a design medium. Through the processing of details and reproductions of forms from nature and the mushroom in the role of co-creator, separate universes have been created in petri dishes, which bring human-made and natural things into an interplay. At the same time, research was carried out into whether fungal mycelium is suitable as a material for moulding deep-drawn ceramics. An interface between research and crafts is created through the connection between the deep-drawn ceramics and the mushroom growing into the mould.
