Motion simulator

2021

Materials: aluminium, nitinol wire, silicone

Inspired by the immaterial and performative side of the Bauhaus, such as the theatre of Oskar Schlemmer, the kinetic art of Laszlo Moholy – Nagy and the colour-light games, which stand beyond necessity and social utility, an object has been created that acts as a simulator of movement processes. The object created in this context is a medium for changing the experimental visual situation and, despite its sculptural character, allows for interaction and touch. Forces and tension relationships are played out with the help of four wires made of shape memory wire. These can be bent into any shape below 20 degrees and slowly return to their original form as the room temperature rises.
